Gunsgreenhill Phase 2
Eyemouth
This development of nine new family houses commissioned by Berwickshire Housing Association was aimed at younger couples with one or two children, and is currently under construction on a sloped site overlooking Eyemouth.
Our design strategy was to utilise the existing site topography through a series of landscaped terraces to the front of the houses, to maximise green-space, privacy and views towards the sea.
A rhythm of single and double glazed entrances creates a variety of shared and individual spaces along the south west elevation promoting sociability and relate to an adjacent childrens playpark.
These glazed entrances illuminate a stairwell and study area with south light and are animated by coloured glazing providing each unit with it own identity.
The archetypal form of the house is maintained but it’s profile abstracted through flush detailing and a monochrome play of light and dark render.
Annual CO2 emissions:
House Type A1 - 22kg/m2; House Type A2 - 18.21kg/m2; House Type A3 - 21.83kg/m2.
