Hidden Gardens Community Centre
The Tramway Arts Centre, Glasgow
This proposal for community centre was part of a larger landscape and art collaboration with arts organisation, NVA, adjacent to the Tramway Arts Centre Glasgow, called ‘Hidden Gardens’.
The community centre was designed to form enclosed and introverted spaces within the walled enclosure of the remaining structure of the original tram depot boiler house. It is an ordered design consisting of an essentially square room with a perimeter of rooflights and rooms at each corner that frame views of adjacent courtyards.
The walls will be finished with breathable lime render and non-toxic paint on natural fibre insulation within a timber frame.
Won in a design competition in 2002, the proposals have been developed to RIBA Work Stage G but construction is currently on hold.
