National Baha’i Faith Centre for Scotland
Albany Street, Edinburgh
Following a competitive interview, we were appointed as lead consultant for the new National Bahá’i Faith Centre for Scotland. The new centre is to be accommodated within a grade A-listed Georgian townhouse. Originally designed (c.1801) by William Sibbald, the property is located in the east end of Edinburgh’s New Town and lies within the World Heritage Site. The project entailed a change-of-use from offices to a place of worship and will house a mix of different functions including prayer, reading, archiving, feasting and meeting.
The challenge here was to develop a ‘light touch’ in the hope that any upgrading or new work would be barely discernible. Our client’s primary aspiration was that this new building should play an ambassadorial role in promoting the Baha’i faith.
