My interest in this particular topic was initiated by designing a centre for asylum seekers and refugees during my degree year. The dissertation for my Masters in Architecture will use this project as a background to a more specific study. The paper will establish a coherent background about refugees, the meaning of integration and discuss ideas about the concept of the home and its relationship to human needs and psychology. Empirical research based on the analysis of results of interviews with refugees will be used along with a literature review. The objective is to gain conclusions that could inform recommendations for improvement and to raise awareness of the subject.
