The Royal Scottish Academy award enables young artists and architects to experience the city of Florence for three months

In my experience, much of current architecture is disconnected from its history of beautiful drawings. Today, many emerging architects regard drawing as the reserve of marginal architectural alchemists, who dare to suggest at a space unproven and unrestrained by The Computer. This is my home context, but a passion for drawing beyond the limitations of representing a design, means that I enjoy foraging beyond the boundaries of architecture. As a child I would explore imaginary castles, gardens and cities on paper. These often formed from a collage of memories of the many National Trust properties I was taken to on family trips.
