    Eschewing the Eco-Bling

    Eschewing the Eco-Bling

    / Feb 1, 2011

The current issue of ‘Timber + Sustainable Building’ magazine (winter 2010/2011) features a 3-page article on OCA’s social housing project in the Borders. The 2nd phase of the Todlaw development features 12 flats arranged in three blocks of four.

The text by Peter Wilson admires the design’s restraint and its ability “…to find its place – and to create one – within the given context.” He adapts Robrt Browing’s aphorism and appeals for “No more great buildings, dear God, just raise the general standard.”

    Lilliputian Museum Matrix

    Lilliputian Museum Matrix

    / Jan 18, 2011

This installation in Schop by Thomas Mason (until 18th March) references the Cabinets of Curiosity of the classical era. The work comprises a collection of miniature museums inhabiting Edinburgh’s historic police boxes. Each box houses a succinct collection of Scottish artifacts, ranging from Sir Walter Scott’s printing type, to the ancient Lewis Chessmen.

In a city which can be considered a museum itself, the miniaturization aspect causes us to question the nature of museums as they themselves become the objects on display.
