'Building Scotland' Exhibition

‘Building Scotland’, a book published in 1943, written by architects Alan Reiach and Robert Hurd, was a
rallying cry to architects working in Scotland towards the end of the Second World War. This lively exhibition was curated and designed to show that there are plenty of similarly strong voices today. With a modest budget and a strict deadline of the start of the Edinburgh Festival 2000, Oliver Chapman Architects co-ordinated an audio-visual documentary developed with Linda Graham and gathered exhibits from architects world-wide.

The first half of the exhibition explained the book in the context of 1943 and the second half presented six individuals’ diverse opinions, living and working in present-day Scotland. A double layered translucent
wall housing models of future projects was located between these two halves of the exhibition.
